"Batman Shooter" suspect Before & After College

Here is an example of what can happen after a few years under the influence of false guides just as the Pharisees laid the mental framework for the Zealots/Sicarii of Jesus' day,

In an e-mail dated July 23, days after Holmes was identified as the alleged movie theater shooter, Beshers, [the director of the neuroscience graduate school program at CU that James E. Holmes had been attending for a year], wrote an e-mail to a colleague saying

"we (the program and esp. students) need to ponder this and maybe have a discussion about it."

While Beshers did not want to announce the university's connection to Holmes on its website, he wrote "at the same time there's no point in try to hide it, or hide from it." ... He suggested meeting at a local restaurant and bar "where we could have a beer and talk amongst ourselves then maybe we could announce a gathering for anyone interested." ... It's not clear whether the gathering occurred. Beshers did not immediately return a telephone call from CNN early Saturday seeking comment.  http://www.cnn.com/2012/08/11/justice/colorado-shooting-suspect/index.html?hpt=hp_t3

In his personal statement on a grad school application, Holmes revealed that as a high school student he interned at the Salk Institute of Biological Studies, working in Terrence J. Sejnowski's computational neurology lab. canoncitydailyrecord.com

(CNN) -- The man accused of opening fire at a Colorado movie theater wanted to study "the primary source of all things, our own minds," according to a personal statement he submitted as part of a graduate studies application. ... He titled his resume "aspiring scientist." ... Holmes was described as taking "an active role in his education, and brings a great amount of intellectual and emotional maturity into the classroom," according to a letter of reference that appeared to be from one of his former professors. ... Overall, the documents show that the faculty at the University of Illinois appeared to be taken with Holmes, offering him admission, a $22,660 stipend , and a tuition and fee waiver. ... CNN

Before destruction the heart of man is haughty.
Proverbs 18:12 (Solomon)

After four years of college, Holmes came to be regarded by the university elite as highly qualified, ideal grad student candidate:

The University of Illinois released documents from Holmes' application process to become a neuroscience graduate student at the school, complete with a personal statement and a photograph of Holmes in sunglasses pointing a strand of hay at a llama.

Information in the documents released by Illinois, first reported Friday by The News-Gazette in Champaign, offers a window into the world of the aspiring scientist and brilliant academic striving to learn as much as he could about how the brain works.

"Those who met you ... during your interview visit felt that your personal and professional qualities are truly outstanding and that you will be an excellent match for our program," said the Illinois acceptance letter from professor J. Lee Beverly.

The trove of documents released include Holmes' resume, a personal statement, letters of reference with the names blacked out, confirmation of a criminal background check, a schedule of Holmes' March 2011 campus visit, and multiple e-mail exchanges among school officials about the prospective student who professors winkingly referred to as "Llama."

Holmes was the final neuroscience candidate to visit the campus and obviously wooed the professors, making the tentative list to become a distinguished fellow. ...

Holmes' application reveals his grade-point average from the University of California at Riverside was 3.94 on a 4.0 scale, that he was Phi Betta Kappa member and his GRE verbal score was in the 98th percentile and quantitative score was in the 94 percentile. His analytical writing score was in the 45 percentile.

His resume also included an entry from his work at a children's camp in which he said he "took an active stance as a positive role model." [HJ Admin: This was after first year of college, summer of 2008 in Los Angeles].

Letters of reference, apparently from his undergraduate professors but whose names were blacked out, championed Holmes as "among the top 1 percent of honors students and is self-motivated, intelligent, and driven."

"James is an extraordinarily gifted student who is very dedicated to his academic pursuits," one letter said. "He takes an active role in his education, and brings a great amount of intellectual and emotional maturity into the classroom. He is passionate about a career in science and seeks out opportunities to learn as much as possible about his chosen field of interest, and how he can positively contribute to the world."

... James E. Holmes wrote:

"Rational people act based on incentives for self-fulfillment, including fulfilling needs of self-development and needs of feeling useful and helpful to others," Holmes wrote in his application. "I look forward to fulfilling my quest to advance my knowledge and I plan to use my critical thinking skills by studying the subject I am passionate about, neuroscience."

He described his "unquenchable curiosity, a strong desire to know and explore the unknown, and a need to persist against the odds."

He said his goal was to analyze memory.

"I have always been fascinated by the complexities of long lost thought seemingly arising out of nowhere into a stream of awareness," he wrote. ... "These are the very cognitive processes which enable us to acquire information and retain it. They are at the core of what distinguishes us as people. Due to the seemingly infinite vastness of indefinite knowledge we must be selective in our pursuits of knowledge. This is why I have chose to study the primary source of all things, our own minds."

... Holmes ultimately decided to attend CU. ... Later that night, a colleague forwarded the news to Beshers, the neuroscience program coordinator.

"Glad we put the $$ and effort into bringing him," responded Beshers, the neuroscience program coordinator for CU, the University of Colorado.

“Thoughts About A Friend Named James Holmes” Former College Roommate Speaks Out

Since last week’s shooting in Colorado, James Holmes has been the number one topic of conversation among pretty much everyone. Majority of what people have said about him has been negative. However, one of Holmes’ former college roommates wants the world to see a side of him that’s different than the one depicted by the media. For all current and former UCR students, this case definitely hit close to home. Read what this young man had to say about the friend that he once knew.

Thoughts about a friend named James Holmes

Disclaimer: I’m not here to justify the actions of the Aurora shooting. Nothing can warrent such a ridiculous act. Instead, I’m going to give you some background on a side that not even the media has covered. After a few days of digesting this, I decided to write my thoughts about it all and kinda describe what I’ve been thinking.

For those of you who haven’t already known, James (or Jim) was one of my 3 apartment-mates in my second year at UCR. Originally I was assigned to live with James, —- (both lived with each other freshmen year) and someone named —-, who transfered out before the fall, in the newly constructed Glen Mor apartments . During winter quarter, —– moved into the apartment. After the year was over, —- moved out with his friend, —- and I lived in —, and James lived on his own until he graduated. We have seen James randomly throughout campus and lost contact with him after 2010, especially since his facebook was deactived (not that he used it that often anyway).

I had not heard anything about him until Friday morning, when a friend posted about the suspect. I saw the picture without looking at the name and said holy ****, that’s James…I was in disbelief. It took me almost the entire day to really pull myself together…a man who’s responsible for 12 deaths and 50+ injuries was my apartment-mate. My co-workers thought I was lying at first…but seriously how do you make this stuff up? I read all these comments and articles about how much of a monster James is…and I’m mixed with emotions…none of you know him. Everyone’s disrespectful and ****…sure he did a huge crime, but he wasn’t always like this.

James was an introverted guy, no doubt about that. A smart and witty guy who prefered to be doing his own things. He was not a loner; a loner implies that he struggled to make friends and socialize. Instead, he was self-sufficient and independant. He lived his own life, had his own schedule and did it; nothing wrong with that. He would always be in his room with the door open, either doing homework, playing video games, or lying on his bed and stare at the ceiling. When you see him walk by or ride his bike, you can see that he’s in his own zone. The guy loved his solitude, but if you took the effort to get his attention you’d get it. As roommates, we would have to drag him out of his room to work out with us, or watch tv or eat. Nevertheless, he was warm and friendly. He liked listening to trance, he watches comedies such as the office, family guy, simpsons. He even came out a few times to play games with me and —–. He was never good at them, and he played 1/5th of what I used to play. He would always drive me to get groceries or to drive me to metrolink or even san diego when he was going home. The only thing I discovered was that he didn’t like going home and he especially didn’t get along with his little sister because she was bratty, but even then he would never show resentment or hate. This guy is more normal than some people I know right now. If you asked any of my roommates, they would tell you the same thing.

So what happened to this guy? I don’t know…something definitely happened to him from the time we graduated to the shooting. He apparently went to Colorado to get his PHD but he ended up dropping out. I felt no danger living and interacting with him. Hell, a few of my SD friends even stayed over and met him during the SD wildfires. The thing that we can take from all this is that this could happen to anyone. It’s unfortunate that a friend I got to know and bond with is involved with the shooting. It stings…because a vision of someone has been shattered by a crime. I feel bad that I didn’t check up on him after college. I suggest that everyone should check up on their introverted friends and get to know them better. You’ll learn a side that no one knows (remember, they’re misunderstood, not crazy). Maybe you’ll help them deal with something that they’ve been struggling with…because I feel like this could have been avoided if the proper steps were taken.

Hopefully this gives some perspective on the other side of James; my intentions aren’t to change your mind about the crime, but give you some background on an area that isn’t covered. The media does a fantastic job of making him look like a monster…but there’s always two sides of the story. I do thank the people who has been checking up on me. Prayers go out to all the victims and their families, and even James’s family.

I hope we can all move forward and learn from this instead of playing the blame game.

On a broader level, consider America's experience since the 1960's when the country began to greatly expand access to secular college education through the G.I. Bill, government funded financial aid, and the exponential growth of America's secular university system, all in a bid to greatly increase the proportion of the secular college educated among us.  That same period of time witnessed the explosion of immorality in public entertainment, the infiltration of illegal drugs, the sexual revolution and of divorce, broken homes, race riots, anti-government actions, deprivation of Christ's teaching from public schools and public institutions and the public square, gay pride, sexual abuse of children, missing children, gay-on-boys-sexual-abuse, sex-changes, gay marriage, open hostility against the Christians and the Gospel of Christ they preach, church burnings, and lethal shooting attacks against Christian ministries. Financially, this same period has seen a widening between rich and poor and the explosion of unrepayable debt on every level of American society - from the Federal Government's 16 Trillion Dollar National Debt, to nearly every State of the Union, nearly every County, nearly every City and town, nearly every business and family - in debt so deep there are no genuine plans to ever repay what has ben borrowed.  Is the Country really better off now than before the college-induced secularization?  Is there a way to obtain the benefits of higher education without the injection of hostility to Jesus Christ?

Prior to attending graduate school, James E. Holmes was a lot closer to average than 99% are willing to admit. The facts are clear: academia regarded him a perfect product of their system of education.  The undeniable reality is now that James Eagan Holmes is just the latest posterboy for the effects of modern college educational system has been having on America and Western Europe in recent generations.  This was forseen to a certain extent back in 1961 when the first edition was published of the following book:

Intellectual Schizophrenia: Culture, Crisis, and Education by Rousas John Rushdoony

"There is no law, no society, no justice, no structure, no design, no meaning apart from God."
As the title implies, Intellectual Schizophrenia: the author identifies the basic contradiction that pervades a secular society that rejects God's sovereignty but still needs law and order, justice, science, and meaning to life. Secular man wants to use the things of creation while denying their Creator. So modern man becomes schizophrenic. He wants to assert his autonomy while rejecting the divine order that gives meaning to life. It is therefore no accident that modern schools have become such dangerous places, intellectually, morally, physically, and psychologically. They embrace the intellectual schizophrenia of man in total rebellion against God. ~ Intellectual Schizophrenia Culture, Crisis, and Education by Rousas John Rushdoony,  http://chalcedon.edu/research/books/intellectual-schizophrenia-2/

Harvard and the Making of the Unabomber by Alston Chase, appearing in the June 2000 issue of The Atlantic  http://www.theatlantic.com/past/docs/issues/2000/06/chase.htm
"In the fall of 1958 Theodore Kaczynski, a brilliant but vulnerable boy of sixteen, entered Harvard College. There he encountered a prevailing intellectual atmosphere of anti-technological despair. There, also, he was deceived into subjecting himself to a series of purposely brutalizing psychological experiments -- experiments that may have confirmed his still-forming belief in the evil of science. Was the Unabomber born at Harvard? A look inside the files ..."

Charles Joseph Whitman (June 24, 1941 – August 1, 1966) was an engineering student and former Marine who killed 13 people and an unborn child and wounded 32 others in a shooting rampage located in and around the Tower of the University of Texas on the afternoon of August 1, 1966. Three of the fatalities were killed inside the university's tower, with 11 others (including an unborn child) murdered after Whitman fired at random targets from the 28th floor observation deck of the Main Building before Whitman was shot and killed by Austin Police Officer Houston McCoy.  Prior to his committing the mass murder at the University of Texas (where he was a student), Whitman had murdered both his wife and mother in Austin.  At the time of their being committed, the Texas Sniper shootings were considered the worst example of mass murder in American history.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_Whitman  and http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=charles+whitman&qs=n&form=QBVR&pq=charles+whitman&sc=8-15&sp=-1&sk=
